House Site - Location

The Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles, is an archipelago of over 200 islands which lie approximately 40 miles (65 kms) off the north-west coast of Scotland. They stretch for over 150 miles (240 kms) from Lewis in the north, to Barra in the south.

The Isle of Lewis and Harris, which is the third largest landmass in the United Kingdom after the mainland and Ireland, is approximately 60 miles (95 kms) in length, and, at its widest, is 30 miles (50 kms) across. The only town on the island is Stornoway which is the capital and administrative centre. It has a population of approximately 8,000 which is about 30% of the total population of the Outer Hebrides. It is the third largest town in the Scottish Highlands after Inverness and Fort William. The island is the heartland of Gaelic culture and language in Scotland, and the majority of the population is bi-lingual. For any potential purchaser who wishes to know more about the town of Stornoway, a sister website showing the town and its facilities has been created which can be accessed directly here.

The house site is situated 3 miles (5kms) east of Stornoway in the village of Branahuie (In Gaelic - Braigh na h-Aoidhe) which is co-located with the village of Melbost (In Gaelic - Mealabost) on the main Stornoway - Eye Peninsula (Point District) road. The village is approximately 0.75 miles (1.2 kms) in length.
